2013 QUALITY WELLNESS OPEN GOLF CLASSIC AND FITNESS FESTIVAL

Educational budget cuts and standardized testing foci are diminishing physical activity and physical education in our nation’s school system. As a result, childhood obesity rates have grown and continue to do so in enormous proportions. Sedentary technology and unhealthy eating habits also play major roles by enabling us and promoting inactive lifestyles. Almost 1 of every 3 children are overweight or obese, which opens the door to diabetes, high blood pressure and other cancerous health related diseases that stem from lack of proper nutrition and exercise. Hunger in areas with certain financial and familial circumstances, disadvantaged environments do not have the food or resources to be inspired to succeed in living a healthy lifestyle.

The First Tee at FM Law Park and Quality Wellness host the 2013 Quality Wellness Open Golf Classic and Fitness Festival to both bring awareness to and fight against childhood obesity – hunger and other health related diseases. A smorgasbord of physical activities for kids and adults; 3 one-hour classes for the gallery; Yoga, zumba and a boot camp – Golf performance classes – free fitness assessments and seminars, healthy food and more all at one event. Proceeds from the event will go to the Houston Parks Boards budget and to further wellness programs at The First Tee at FM Law Park, as well as throughout The Greater Houston and surrounding areas.
